Honored for his efforts to deal with COVID-19, Leonard Bevill serves as the CEO and owner of Macon Occupational Medicine in Macon, Georgia. Leonard Bevill has contributed to the civic life of his city in several ways, and takes pride in Macon’s attractions, three of which are listed here:

The Tubman African American Museum
Named for Harriett Tubman, who helped hundreds of slaves find freedom, the museum hosts many educational and cultural events and exhibits. Highlighting the collection is a 59-foot-long mural that depicts the lives of Black people from places ranging from Africa to America. Also featured are the stories of Black inventors, Macon residents, and musicians based in the city, such as Little Richard and the Allman Brothers.

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
Billed as the nation’s biggest state sports hall of fame, the facility commemorates more than 400 athletes and includes over 3,000 artifacts. Well-known members of the hall of fame include baseball superstar Hank Aaron, NBA basketball legend Wayne “Tree” Rollins, world champion boxer Sugar Ray Robinson, and women’s golfing great Nancy Lopez.

International Cherry Blossom Festival
In 1949, Macon realtor William A. Fickling Sr. noticed an unusual tree in his backyard. He was not able to identify it until he visited the famous cherry trees in Washington, D. C. He took a cutting back home and learned to reproduce them. The city is now home to more than 350,000 of these Yoshino cherry trees.
